Village Artists

Since their formation in 1996 The Village Artists’ Group has flourished as a warm and friendly group of people from beginners to professional artists. We offer a warm welcome to budding art enthusiasts, whatever their standards or abilities, all members supporting each other with ideas and encouragement. Once a year we take the opportunity to display our work at The Village Artists’ Exhibition in the Memorial Hall, Stoke sub Hamdon and maybe we will be able to sell some pieces as well. This year we have a joint enterprise with Somerset Oil Painters with whom we are sharing the load. To our delight Tea and cakes are being served by the 1st Stoke sub Hamdon Brownies during the exhibition. Above all we all contribute to a common enjoyment of art and good company in a relaxed, informal, and friendly environment.

Our objective being to encourage, promote and practice the visual arts in all forms - Abstract, Still Life, Landscapes and Portraiture by whatever means, pencil, pastels, watercolour, oils and acrylic and in or on any medium you like even iPads.

Members bring their own materials and equipment along to the sessions. We do have a stock of materials, equipment, and a small library of books, so members can try out unfamiliar mediums before going to the expense of buying.

These days we meet twice a week during term times, Tuesdays 7.30pm – 9.30pm and Fridays 10.00am – 12.00 noon at the Memorial Hall, Stoke sub Hamdon. Occasionally during the term, we have demonstrations at our meetings given by willing members or even practical advice from visiting experts. Each term we try to arrange a Saturday Workshop where we invite specialist local artists to explain and demonstrate their skills to participating members and take advantage of expert professional tuition for a day. Workshops are charged separately at cost.

Fees per term (3 terms per year) are currently £27.00 – you can attend any or all the weekly sessions for this amount. Refreshments are provided free of charge.

We offer inspirational themes that members can explore if they wish, a particular subject matter is scheduled in our published programme.

If you are interested in joining The Village Artists Group, why not come along to one of our weekly sessions (free of charge) and see what you think before formally joining the group. You will not regret it and you will be made very welcome!
